Measurement Principle


PCM200‑SO4 Sulfate Water Quality Online Automatic Monitor operates as follows: at 95°C, a specified volume of water sample is added to barium chromate and heated for digestion. Sulfate ions in the water sample undergo a displacement reaction with barium chromate to form barium sulfate, thereby displacing chromate ions. Subsequently, ammonia water is added to precipitate excess barium chromate. The supernatant is collected for colorimetric analysis. Using ultraviolet spectrophotometry, the absorbance A is measured at 440 nm. The concentration of displaced chromate ions is directly proportional to absorbance A. Sulfate content exhibits a direct proportional relationship with absorbance A.
